"We look for light, but all is darkness;
For brightness, but we walk in deep shadows.
Like the blind we grope along the wall,
Feeling our way like people without eyes." [isaiah 59:10]
Like the blind.
How often do I grope, feel my way along, like a blind man. Like there is no straight path in front of me, unsure in every shaky step I take.
Why the darkness? Darkness in sinful, human nature. Darkness in hurtful words and unfaithful trust. Darkness in doubt and fear and failure and questions and blurry, flawed human-sight.
Is pressing darkness all?
"God is light. In Him is no darkness at all."
"If we walk in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin." [1 john 1:5&7]
That darkness? Gone, completely? Purified? I look up with my human eyes and I see golden light spread on the wall. With human sight I see but I also realize that I have been given spiritual sight as well, through Salvation in Jesus Christ. This light - it's in me. It's in us, through Jesus. And there is no darkness in Jesus.
"No one lights a lamp and puts it in a place where it will be hidden, or under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand so that those who come in may see the light. Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are healthy, your whole body is also full of light."
"Therefore, if your whole body is full of light, and no part of it is dark, it will be just as full of light as when a lamp shines its light on you." [luke 11:33&34]
Still today, He speaks light in us, and He separates us from all darkness.
Over and over in His Word He speaks light.
"You, Lord, are my lamp; The Lord turns my darkness into light." [2 sam 22:29]
"God has delivered me from going down to the pit, and I shall live to enjoy the light of life." [job 33:28]
"You, Lord, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light." [psalm 18:28]
"For with you is the fountain of life; in Your light we see light." [psalm 36:9]
"Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path." [psalm 119:105]
So why hide in our man-made shadows and grope in human-confusion?
We who are in Christ have been given EYES THAT SEE. Why walk as one who is blind? Why hide the light? Walk as one with full sight! Full sight to see whatever He has for us. Full sight to see others as Christ sees them. Full sight to forgive, love, serve, follow, and walk as one purged of all darkness.
"So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light." [romans 13:12]
We've been called by the Light Himself, who conquered all darkness and through the victory of the cross now shines His light in all who believe.
"You are the light of the world...Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." [matthew 5:14&16]
No more darkness. Live as one with full sight!
